I went to Saturday’s performance and have to say that it was utterly life-affirming.
It is one of my favourite operas anyway, but HGO’s utterly charming take lifted it a level.
Utterly brilliant. Singing, orchestra superb. Wonderfully inventive, colourful and witty set and costume designs. One of the best operas I have seen in years, and I go to a lot of operas. Joyful, pure pleasure.
Wonderful orchestral music, great singing and acting, all full of life. The best I have seen in years. I cannot believe there is a better opera than this for the Offie.
This is an imaginative, fun, clever and charming production . It bursts with energy and enthusiasm and the music is of course wonderful. I was astonished at what can be achieved with modest props and a tiny stage by sheer talent and intelligence . A thoroughly enjoyable night out at the opera.
This was a production that really brought the animals to life: some super acting as well as inspired singing.
The touching addition of a grieving mother still laying flowers on her dead daughter’s grave, so connecting the opera to Janacek’s grief for his daughter, brought the theme of death and yet the continuation of life heartrenderingly alive.
They were all awesome.
To see and hear the cast enjoying themselves so much was just so life affirming and inclusive.
The orchestra was wonderful, responding to excellent musical direction.
An energetic and innovative interpretation of a a challenging opera.

My wife and I very much enjoyed the performance of The Cunning Little Vixen on 14th November. The staging was most imaginative, the acting of the Vixen top class, as well as the singing, particularly of the Forrester and the Vixen. It was clear the whole cast as well as the orchestra were really enjoying the evening. Well done HGO!
The Cunning Little Vixen was a huge challenge for everybody.
The music director Lada Valesova was the best choice for making impossible possible and much more.
Congratulation to all involved !
