This is a brilliant production. It really brought Reading Abbey to life. As a front of house volunteer I had the chance to talk to many people who attended the play. They were overwhelmed by it with a huge amount of praise. As a long term resident of Reading, I’m sure I speak for many to say it made us really proud of our town and its contribution to history.

We have watched the Rabble theatre company grow over the last few years. This years performance of Henry I has been superb. It’s a fantastic piece of well researched scripting with historic detail and emotional balance to each character. The cast is diverse and challenging but has achieved a terrific level of engagement. The whole piece is staged in a minimalist set, the sound and music composed for the piece combines excellently with the lighting to provide a vision for the audience to experience and immerse themselves in. We attended the performance in each of the locations, and this further enhanced the experience with the historic settings two of which would have been pertinent to the action. This was a wonderful and engaging performance that underlines the quality and standards that the company aspires to…and hits.
